Legacy Plans
I'm going to take a break from the BaCC for a little bit, as work is quite stressful at the moment and I'm coming home exhausted pretty much every night. I think my updates have been suffering because of it, and I'd rather put it aside for a while until I have enough energy to give it the sort of updates it deserves.
I'm not feeling much like doing the (rather boring and repetitive) posing for my Megahood Makeovers either, or building for Angler's Cove (lot shrinking headaches!), so I've decided to finally get on with that Legacy that I've been thinking about starting for quite a while now. It'll be nice to just play for a while and concentrate on a single family.

As I simply can't bring myself to play a legacy in an empty hood, I've quickly put together a neighbourhood for it to take place in, based on my Maple Lake neighbourhood terrain. I plopped various of Twoflower's lots in it, and gave it the fabulously original name of Twoflower Lake. It has a spring/fall/winter/winter rotation, and is supposed to be a rustic and pine-filled place up north somewhere. I'm currently in the process of making some townies for it (fun!) and figuring out who should be my founder.
I read about a particular legacy ruleset I wanted to follow a while back, but I seem to have lost my link to it. It had different challenges for every generation, the first was farming I believe, and the second business or something similar. If anyone could point me towards that post, I'd be very grateful :)

Now enough babbling, and on with the picspam!

The lot in the back is where the legacy will take place :)

Pretty! I was actually planning on using this terrain of yours for a BACC, but after attemtping to start like five of them and not being able to get past making the sims and building the founder's lot, I gave up. :P

Anyway, this looks awesome. I'm intrigued to see your legacy. :)

BaCCs are a big project, as *everything* is made from scratch. It's a lot easier to have a foundation to build on already. I totally get why people lose interest in them (I'm still amazed mine is still going somehow).

I quite liked this terrain (it was a request originally, I think) and I'd been looking for an excuse to use it anyway :)
I'm actually using Benjamin Longnose and the gang as my townies :D Well, modified and made-over versions of them, anyway. So there will be some familiar faces around, at least ^^

I don't like how your "plopped together just-to-avoid-any-empty-hood" 'hood is 1000x better mine are! :P Haha, I am very jealous of your skills, nepheris!

I can't wait to see your legacy given how cool your BaCC is!
Nepherisnepheris on January 12th, 2012 07:51 pm (UTC)
Pfffsh, nonsense :) From what I've seen of your hoods, they look great!
I did spend some time prettifying the place, but the buildings are plonked down without rhyme or reason. Ah well, not like they're supposed to be used.

And thanks! :$

I'm actually using this terrain for my unposted legacy and asylum. It's cleverly called Maple Lake, lol. XD The town looks great, it has a nice rustic feel to it. Does look like Norway or Sweden. :) Are you going to post the legacy updates? I don't remember the last time I actually played without taking pictures all the time, slows you down so much and I always have to get the right angles and everything. *sigh*
Nepherisnepheris on January 12th, 2012 07:53 pm (UTC)
Yay for Maple Lake getting some use! :D I've been thinking about whether I should just play or post, but people seem to be rather excited about seeing it, so I'll probably do updates.

I don't really spend a lot of time on angles and stuff aside from making sure that the pics look more or less allright, so that cuts down on the time I suppose.

Is this the legacy challenge you were looking for? Generations Tasks

Oooh, lovely hood. Also, could it be the Difference in the Family-challenge you are looking for? Link: https://angelofafallen.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/difference-in-the-family-tree-challenge/ I always thought that sounded megafun myself, but never got around to trying it out.
Nepherisnepheris on January 12th, 2012 07:39 pm (UTC)
That's the one! Thank you so much :D It does sound tons of fun, I hope it will be ^^

Your neighborhoods are always so lovely! Everything looks great. I believe the rules you're searching for are the <a href="http://boolprop.prophpbb.com/topic388.html>Differences in the Family Tree</href>, which goes for 16 generations but could easily be ended at 10. I look forward to seeing your legacy!
Clariellirynia on January 12th, 2012 07:54 pm (UTC)
Ha, beaten to the punch and HTML fail. XD Differences in the Family Tree - fixed link to the Sims 2 version of the challenge. :)

It looks great! I've been playing the DITFT challenge as well. I'd love to see your take on it. Good luck!

The hood looks great, I love Twoflower's lots, and her prosperity challenge is funny too. Enjoy the DitFT challenge, I've been wanting to play that one too :)

So pretty! "Quickly" put it together, she says. Lol, I couldn't do that "not-quickly" much less quickly! You're so good at decorating hoods! And I love the street layout on this one. Can't wait to see you start it!
Niminimi4 on January 13th, 2012 08:34 pm (UTC)
Much love for your neighbourhood decorating and imagery, as always :D
My favourite aspects are the stumps of cut-down trees, the little walkway going from one street to another and the PINE TREEEES ♥ I love the megalithic henge also, but it seems to be in a bit of an awkward position (if you don't mind me saying -- I've been reading about henges today and, being used to watch astronomical phenomenons, most of them were situated on spots where they could have a clear look on the horizon. I suppose your henge is just not one of those, then! ^_^)
I also like how you've plopped down rocks and were not afraid to make it rough and rocky and properly nordic. Those rocks always feel a little awkward to me when I place them.
Twoflower's lots fit in perfectly! I always loved her little chapel.

I couldn't stand playing a legacy in an empty 'hood either, so I approve of your reasoning. My little legacy 'hood is quite randomly decorated though and does not have any other lots to cut down on computer strain.
It is indeed very nice to concentrate on only one family. I don't think I've ever done that in all the years that I've been playing Sims, and although my mind keeps busying itself with thinking out elaborate neighbourhoods, all the playing I do counts towards the completion of the legacy of that single family. Which is very little so that is a good thing! I'd never be able to get far in anything if I divided my playing time over many families. Sadly enough.

The ruleset looks great -- they even have Basegame rules! I sort of wish I'd known about that when I started, it's taken a different turn now, but I could still incorporate some of the challenges I suppose.

I would love to see pictures/commentary if you decide to share, but only as long as it won't feel like a chore to you!

(and sorry for typing up a storm!)
Nepherisnepheris on January 13th, 2012 09:46 pm (UTC)
As I said, the decorations are pretty much random, so 'open space? errr... henge!' was about as far as my thought process on that one went ^^ I could put something else there, but I wouldn't know what, really.

I can really recommend the 'pick a tree/rock/clump of trees and slap it around all over the place' method of decorating for banishing that fear of awkwardness :D

I've never done a legacy before, I also tend to create communities rather than single families. Maybe I'll get bored with it in a generation or two :D I'll probably play it for a while to see how I like it before deciding to post. If I get around to playing it anytime soon that is. Apparently creating townies somehow led to me making over every single face template as I wasn't happy with the townies I was coming up with, nor with any of the default replacement templates out there.

The amount of work I put myself through before I can even *think* of starting to actually play is rather staggering...

I could swear I saw a legacy challenge where every generation was a different occupation, too. Possibly on MTS?

Ah, I see you found it, excellent.

Aww, Twoflower Lake! That's so awesome. Thank you. :) You have a beautiful neighborhood. Sorry I didn't find it and comment sooner, but LJ is kind of a new thing for me still.
